Good morning,
What better way to start a lazy Mother’s Day (at least for us Australians) than by catching up on what you missed on Couchfish?
A “hell garden” at a temple in Nan town. Not sure if any of these sins included forgetting Mother’s Day. Photo: Stuart McDonald.
If you forgot today is Mother’s Day, you’re in luck! I’m offering a 50% off deal on paid Couchfish subscriptions. Offer finishes on May 12, so be quick—note, you do not have to give the subscription to your Mum!
Onwards to the wrap on last week’s posts—I’ll start with the two free–to–read ones:
On Tuesday, Couchfish Diversion went to Munduk in Bali, Indonesia. Despite how touristed South Bali is, it isn’t too hard to get away to somewhere quieter. Munduk is my pick of the crop.
On Friday, A close call on the road to Phongsali details a close call I had travelling alone by motorbike in northern Laos. A beautiful area, that’s for sure, but it always pays to be prudent—and to be nimble when using a helmet.
Onto the paid subscriber posts...
Monday and Tuesday covered a caving and jungle trek I did in Thailand’s Nan province. Despite the non–stop complaints of the two Brits I was trekking with, it was a great trip.
On Wednesday I moved on eastward to Bo Kluea—a tiny village in a remote part of Nan province famous for its salt.
Thursday had me looping through the north of the province. Fantastic scenery and I even managed to fit in an impromptu English class.
Friday: My last full day in Thailand. What better way to kick it off than with an early morning market disco, followed by a visit to a few lesser sights.
This coming Monday will have me leaving Thailand and moving on north for a week or so in northern Laos. After that, a quick hop through a remote bit of Burma.
At the business end of the stick, subscribers continue to grow. Couchfish went from 580 to 637 in total—thank you!
As mentioned above, don’t forget about that 50% off deal—you can sign up for it here. The deal finishes on May 12.
Good couch travels,
Stuart
