did see dolphins one early morning and managed to have a series of colonial style guest houses to enjoy all through south Laos. could it be the "doctor's house" on Don Khon? (forgot to bring my diaries to Corsica) memories of giant jacaranda trees too, taking a boat to Champassak.

Not sure if it is the doctor’s house. There are a few scattered about the south. Often nice spots for a splurge.

Hi. Just FYI, when I was there in November 2019, the ricketty little bridge to Khone Pa Soi had been closed for safety reasons. The little restaurant at the bridge was still open, but very quiet, and had a small collection box for funds to repair the bridge. I kinda got the feeling it might take a while to raise enough money for repairs....

There was a small trailhead next to the bridge, heading north along the bank of the gorge, however it include loads of wobbly, very basic bridges (the one plank and a prayer type) over mini ravines. I crossed 4 before my risk-aversion overtook my curiosity and I turned back - the deepest mini ravine I crossed was maybe 5 feet (enough to seriously mess up your ankle if you fell) so i have no idea where it led to (if it was a great viewpoint, or just some dude's house).
