I've run into some of this crap, too, while writing about properties. Had the same experience with one pushing heavily doctored photos that don't portray the truth. Unfortunately, I was writing for someone else, and the hotel got their way in the end.
I’ve stayed in some terrific and interesting places from your website over many years. I particularly remember a basic hostel in the suburbs of a non tourist town in Vietnam, a town only you had on your site, and a terrific, and cheap, little hotel in Hanoi where I stayed for weeks. These are the places that taught me to go to places not usually in the big travel guides and find what I really love about travel. I appreciate the warts and all because it lets me decide what I can put up with and what is important to me. I’ve stayed in places advertised elsewhere that gave me the wrong impression or didn't tell me what to avoid if I could. In the last decade I’ve been travelling in an area you don’t cover and often wished I had that sort of information available to me.
Thank you, glad to hear you have found the site useful—unfortunately we don’t cover the whole planet ha ha. It is funny you mention a small guesthouse in Hanoi, we listed one place there that was the source of soooo many comments like yours, and they were a small family-run spot that at the time wasn’t listed in many sources, so it was great to help a small property out and please readers. Win win!
Really, really appreciate the honest work you do. Makes me proud to support you. Keep it up!
Thank you!

Yeah, it the expectation, when combined with publishers satisfying it, that make it harder foe everyone else. Does readers no favours.

I used to be an entertainment journalist and have first hand experience with hot people get while trying to control their image...
I bet!
The question is, will a crazed entrepreneur build a white sandy beach in Ubud?! On leased land of course
“Ubud Beach” the mind whirls!
