My son spent a year travelling around the world finishing in Bangkok where someone went into their room and stole their stuff on the last night. A lot of running around the next day and they were home to UK. Some months later he showed me a series of itchy tunnels like red marks on his foot and I sent him to the hospital for tropical diseases. It was dog faeces burrowing worms and a few dog worm tablets later he was fine.
