My favorite town in Thailand without a doubt.

One thing to do if you are at a loose end is pick at random one of the local songthaews and simply see where it takes you (tip always ask driver what time last one back is can usually be done in sign language). Also at many bus stations they have signs advertising various attractions nearby usually both in English and Thai with a picture and the bus number and again always ask the time of the last bus. If you do miss the last bus/songthaew the chances are a friendly local will give you a lift back to town.

So don't just stick on one memorable day stay for a couple more

Thanks for this piece - Really struck a chord. Have been watching a BBC TV show called The Serpent with great memories triggered by every glimpse of a Bangkok street food market.
