Being invited to watch a world cup soccer game and drinking Beer Lao with a group of local young people on the streets of Luang Prabang in 2006. Being swarmed by a group of school children wanting to practice their English on a small alley in Yogyakarta in 2013. Having the back porch of the main temple all to myself at noon at Angkor Wat in 1999. Riding my bicycle to the summit of Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai in 1997. An early morning massage on an otherwise deserted stretch of beach on Koh Chang Ranong in 2020. Every bowl of noodles bought from a street cart vendor in every small town in Thailand, rickety table and folding chairs and all.
