That interchangeability is horrible and what I abhor about so much of America. Drop me on almost any street in America and unless there is a very famous icon in sight, I probably won't know where I am because all I will see is cars, fast food, and strip malls. Maybe the weather will be a tip off, but other than that, forget about it. And I hate the idea of the world becoming that too.
I was in Pakse in 2004 (coincidentally met with writer for Travelfish having never previously heard of it) the evening highlight was the freshly barbecued fish and cold beer by the river.

Yeah Stateside is interesting for that. I drove across the country years ago, a fascinating trip, but yes, plenty of sameness...to a point.
This one really made me think. It really is true and unfortunate that differences are disappearing, making the world a less colourful place.
