I only visited Phetburi for the first time in 2019 and had a great experience. Like you say, there were plenty of temples, caves, and coffee shops to keep me busy, and the relatively rarity of western tourists meant I was adopted by locals at the night market and shown around. Places like Sweet Dreams and 2N Guest House provide comfy and charming accommodation these days too. I would happily break up a trip there for a few nights again. Cheers.
