I remember going to Ko Libong in the days when tourists were a rarity (or a novelty) with some Thai friends and there was a massive argument with the moto driver who took us across the island because he wanted to charge me double what my Thai friends were asked - he lost . I do not recall seeing any resorts back then but could be that was not in the right (or wrong) place

Right. I think is weird how it has never been as popular as the islands just a little to the north. Is a beautiful spot.

For some reason Trang has not been on the tourist map which as you say is a shame. I remember wandering along the beach at Haad Yao (I think ) around the turn of the century and walking through a little fishing village. The men had landed the crabs and the women were busy cooking them and taking the meat out. In my very best Thai I asked how much as crab is one of my favourite foods and was disappointed when it seemed as if I was getting a negative answer as it was not numbers (which I know). Turned out what they were saying is that I could have them for free. So sat and eat them on nearby step and next thing I knew I was being invited to have lunch with the group and had the most amazing fish dishes I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I often wonder what it is like now

I was in Trang town last year with the kids—is one of my favourite towns on that coast. Despite the volume of travellers passing through, in the scheme of things it is pretty unadulterated—unlike say Krabi. It is funny how things shake out. Is like Nakhon Si Thammarat and Phattalung—almost no foreign tourists there—why?!
